When I first made Mr. X’s acquaintance some years ago, he expressed an interest in reading my book despite my warning that he may not like what I had to say about Israel. After he assured me that he was openminded, I gave him a copy which he apparently read but never subsequently commented about.

wine, I became involved in a conversation about the forthcoming U.S.
presidential election with Mr. X and another regular who having watched a video
about Hillary Clinton was of the opinion that the former First Lady was an
extremely corrupt politician who should lose the election to Donald Trump.

“if an ignorant racist could become Prime Minister of Israel, then why can’t
Trump become U.S. President?” The result of my innocuous remark was to cause —
with cataclysmic suddenness — the loss of Mr. X’s usual good humour and bonhomie
and the emergence of his true nature which could no longer disguise the
inherent hatred in his eyes. He angrily informed me that such remarks were not
welcome; that he had read my book and had made no comments about it because he
respected the opinion of others; and while he did not actually accuse me of
