Sexual suppression is prevalent everywhere, not just the film industry: Irrfan Khan

October 27, 2017

During a promotional interview for his upcoming film Qarib Qarib Singlle, Irrfan Khan spoke about sexual suppression within society.

The Hindi Medium actor suggested that those in power tend to sexually suppress others. “Whenever the society is sexually suppressed, it is done by whichever gender has the power and opportunity. If the male has more power, he will exploit the woman, and if the woman has more power, she will exploit the man.”

Touching upon the current Harvey Weinstein debate, Irrfan continued, “People are exploited but there is nothing to hide. It is prevalent in every field – this issue is not just limited to the film industry.”

Irrfan will star opposite South Indian actress Parvathy in Tanuja Chandra’s Qarib Qarib Singlle, which will be the latter’s debut in the Hindi film industry.

When asked about working with Parvathy for the first time, the Life of Pi star expressed, “She is a great actress who has a huge fan following.”

He continued, “The film is based on the characters’ chemistry and the story flows with them. Qarib Qarib Singlle is not a plot-oriented but a character-oriented film, like Piku. Without Parvathy’s great skills, it would have been difficult to make such a film.”
