Survivors by M.R. Burch

Hi all,

the following short poem by m.R. Burch, entitled “Survivors” touched me a lot, because it mentions the word EMPATHY which for me personally is the only path available to avoid any future genocide on this planet full of discrimination, war, and violence.

Authentic interreligious and intercultural empathy, or to use a basic expression HUMAN EMPATHY can change this world. As we have mentioned when we talked about Howard Zinn history is not there to know facts, but to understand and also to feel that this world MUST be changed.

Everyone of us is a survivor.

And the Holocaust survivors who bravely critizise Israel show us the way.

So let us act like them, and let us condemn Israeli violence and war culture.

Survivors
by Michael R. Burch

In truth, we do not feel the horror
of the survivors,
but what passes for horror:

a shiver of “empathy.”

We too are “survivors,”
if to survive is to snap back
from the sight of death

like a turtle retracting its neck.
